Onyx Path Publishing’s Mage: The Ascension 20th Anniversary Edition has a supplement that’s just sailed past $125,000 in funding on Kickstarter. At the time of writing, there are still 25 days to go.
That’s a popular supplement! Now, back when I played Mage, the Technocracy were the baddies. The Technocracy monopolised reality, hunting mages who would dare twist it in ways they didn’t agree on with brutal force. In M20 Technocracy you might think they’re the goodies, and maybe they are. Check out the pitch.
I want to quote the paragraph in which Onyx Path describes the threat to our world. Buckle up!
Climate change threatens to destroy life as we know it. Religious fundamentalism breeds terror around the globe. Diseases, once eradicated from the developed world through vaccination, have returned due to anti-vaxxer movements. Totalitarian nationalist governments rise, as the masses succumb to fear of the other.
A pledge of $5 makes your a sympathiser, you can check out the manuscript preview updates but unless you up your pledge there’s no download for you.
The PDF of Technocracy Reloaded, preview access and being listed as a supporter unlocks at $30. The print-on-demand “at cost” coupon is added in if you go up to $35.
If you need to update your Mage lore and get a copy of Mage: The Ascension 20th Anniversary Edition with your Technocracy Reloaded then that’s $60.
It’s only when you hit $75 (about £60) that you get the hardcover of the supplement. It’s a Deluxe Hardcover, though, traditionally printed.
Funny how things have changed. No one thought the Earth was flat when I rolled my first Mage character. Now I fear a dislike of science is a bad thing, one that should be treated carefully in an RPG until you know how smart your readers are (spoiler; you never know) and this has given us a more nuanced Technocracy.
