It was only the start of the year when we saw the Kickstarter for Age of Ambition by Tab Creations launch.
Now the RPG is available at DriveThruRPG.
That said, this early look, priced at $19.99 is unashamedly an initial release. The first proper release is scheduled for May 28th, after the typos have been spotted and corrected in this version.
The game is set at a time when traditional fantasy is fading into history. Along with magical constructions that are challenging the social order and norms, there are technological ones too.
Influences on the game are broad; from Joe Abercrombie’s First Law to Discworld by Terry Pratchett, the Powder Mage trilogies by Brian McClellan and the Gentleman Bastard series by Scott Lynch.
Age of Ambition uses the Saga Machine system with lifepath character generation complete with omens, events and careers. The fantasy setting is laced together with politics, social dynamics, history and plot hooks.
Matching this are systems not just for combat but for personal ambitions, influence, magic, status contests and even invention.
Once the official first edition is out, Tab Creations will make print options available at DriveThruRPG. Yesterday, the official GM screen inserts for the game and hopefully that suggests the company isn’t bogged down with dozens of critical changes to the rules.
