There’s an official 5e-powered Stargate coming, but it’s been delayed even further by COVID.
In the meantime, the Ash’Rak playable race by Inspiration DnD and available via the DMs Guild might be an effective stand-in.
The usual best practice applies; your DM is likely to say “no” to this particular race as it may not fit her game world. So ask before you buy.
That said, the creative use of Illithid larvae is red hot on trend right now in the world of Dungeons & Dragons. It’s the central plot device of Baldur’s Gate III which features PCs and NPCs only partially controlled by the horrid little tadpoles.
The playable race is a “Pay What You Want” (suggested $0.99) for 3 pages of download. Here’s how InspirationDnD describe how the Ash’Rak came about;
Long ago, a dying hive of mind flayers discovered a prosperous nomadic clan of strong warriors. At first the desperate Illithid simply fed on victims that had been kidnapped in the night. But desperate for survival, the elder brain hatched a hideous plot, and soon the most promising members of the nomadic tribe were infected with Illithid larvae, who used their parasitic control over their host’s brain stem to slowly and subtly influence the clan’s traditions, customs, and biology. After generations of this debauched scheme, the mind flayers took complete control of the nomads, and every young member of the hivemind grew and thrived inside of a strong, able-bodied host. The Ash’Rak are the result of this disgusting and twisted arrangement.
