Last week, Geek Native looked at the Kickstarter for Role. I called it an ambitious platform for the RPG community, but others called it a dating app to find games.
I guess it’s the same thing. The project aims to provide three things; a virtual tabletop/video chat system to play over, a premium marketplace and a method for finding gamers to play with.
One of the reasons I called the project ambitious was because they had given themselves little time to raise $60,000. As it stands today, they have 8 days still go and $43,179 pledged. They might do it.
Magpie Games have announced they’re on board with the project too. Genuinely, Magpie is pioneering in this space, and their curated play program already sells tickets in exchange for a) matching you up with a professional GM and b) adding you to a gaming group.
Role hasn’t funded but Magpie are bullish. They’ve said they’ll be offering exclusive content to Role.
Masks: A New Generation will be made available to anyone who backs the Role campaign and a playset for the game will be featured on the site when it launches.
