Studio Trigger will be making a Cyberpunk 2077 for CD Projekt Red and Netflix. It’s not a retelling of the game, it’s all-new, but it is set in the same world.
We are in for a wait (but we’re used that now, eh Cyberpunk fans) as the anime is scheduled for 2022.
The show is Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and will have a 10-episode story arc. The main character is a kid trying to survive in a rough city and a culture obsessed with body mods. He becomes an edgerunner, a mercenary in Mike Pondsmith’s dystopian vision.
Studio Trigger is likely well known by Geek Native’s anime fans, they’re one of the big names.
On the project, there’s director Hiroyuki Imaishi (Gurren Lagann, Kill la Kill, Promare) who will be working with Masahiko Otsuka (Gurren Lagann, Promare) and another Kill la Kill alum Hiromi Wakabayashi is the creative director.
In contrast, Yuto Kaneko, who came up with the adorable character designs in Little Witch Academia, will be doing the character designs for this anime.
Netflix is currently running a feature-length cyberpunk anime film for Altered Carbon: Resleeved. Resleeved was rated “Healthy average” in Geek Native’s Irregular Reconnaissance.
Are you looking forward to all the Cyberpunk 2077 and Cyberpunk Red projects brewing?
