As we spotted last year, Dark Horse and Studio71 are aiming to Kickstart a The Umbrella Academy board game.
There’s now an early backer site live, putting the coutdown on that launch at just 5 days.
There’s a newsletter on the early backer site that, if you sign up to, means you’ll get a special Number Five card printed on metallic paper. Provided, I think, you also then pledge when the Kickstarter campaign launches.
Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá told press;
“We are thrilled with the continued fan response and reception to The Umbrella Academy. Our love for these stories and characters is what makes us excited for you all to get to experience them firsthand with the Studio71 Umbrella Academy Card Game,”
That same pack also contained some art assets from the game. You can get a good idea for the style of the game, and what it looks like.
We know a little about the gameplay too. Players are Five, Seance, Space Boy, The Rumour, The Horror, The Kraken or Vanya with unique powers and an energy bar card.
Based on the number of players, there is a random selection of villains like Carmichael, Dr. Terminal, Perseus X and Medusa, Hazel & Cha Cha to defeat.
Players put their cards face down against the attack cards from these villains and then reveal them. Whoever does the most damage wins. As a result, the heroes might be a little dysfunctional at times, but that’s all in the spirit of The Umbrella Academy family.
