I was hoping that the Iwakakeru! -Climbing Girls- trailer would give us an idea whether the anime was an excuse to have fit young girls dressed in lycra contort into all sorts of positions or something more serious.
I mean, how often do you see adverts or TV programs when given any free time every women or girl present decides to spent inside, shopping, at a spa or something like that. It feels like writers sometimes forget that women do go outside!
I don’t think we get a clear answer from this trailer. I think we get a shrug of the shoulders and “a bit of both.”
I don’t know the original manga well enough to tell, but it’s about Konomi Kasahara who, after mastering mind games, picks up rock climbing. The two go together quite well as rock climbing is a sport that sometimes needs you to quickly solve puzzles in real time.
The anime will be directed by Tetsuro Amino (Macross 7), and Touko Machida (The Idol Master) is adapting the manga into anime scripts.
There’s no news of a streaming platform in the West picking up the show yet, that I’ve noticed.
