INSPIRISLES is a Kickstarter for a fantasy RPG from Bristol-based Hatchlings, and it’s a little different.
Traditional RPG mechanics have been politely pushed aside for a system built around Belief, the gameplay teaches empathy, life skills and deaf awareness. In fact, the magic system teaches your British Sign Language (or American Sign Language).
Hatchings wanted £1,200 to fund the game. There are 20 days on the clock, at the time of writing, and the project is about to cross the £10,000 line. You can check out the progress here.
The project aims to deliver an A5 premium-colour hardback of 150 pages of rules. The book will include Foundling character creation, spells, ability and item cards and rules for Belief and Doom.
The game, which can be played by adults but which has teens in mind, has characters as teenagers with powers who have been transported into a fairy realm filled with Celtic folklore.
Magic is covered with the Shaping alphabet or BSL to you and me.
The phrase “Game Master” isn’t used and “Grail Guide” adopted instead, a nod towards the Arthurian/Celtic vibe that INSPIRISLES heads towards.
As you might expect, the whole book uses dyslexia-friendly fonts. The art is suitably evocative of fantasy while being appropriate for a young audience.
