Poupelle of Chimney Town is a gorgeous art book by Akihiro Nishino. Studio 4°C has transformed it into an anime feature film.
The teaser for Poupelle of Chimney Town is now out and features an ending theme song created by Nishino themselves.
Yusuke Hirota is the anime’s director, having previously worked on titles like Berserk and Harmony, and Nishino is supervising every aspect of production.
In the book, Chimney Town is surrounded by a wall that’s 4,000 meters tall (that’s about 2.5 miles high). As the name suggests, the walled-off town is choked with chimneys and smoke is everpresent. People have forgotten what the sky looks like.
A deliveryman drops a heart that he was supposed to deliver and, being choked with the unpleasant smoke, gives up looking for it. However, that little heart continues to beat…
We’re told that with Nishino’s involvement the anime will introduce new characters and other tweaks, so there’s still a reason to watch it, even if you know the story.
