Monte Cook’s Cypher System has had some recent wins, I’d argue, with the likes of Pandemonium Noir picking it, Shotguns and Sorcery excelling at it and Carnival Row bringing it to the masses.
It’s perhaps no surprise that The Diamond Throne, one of Monte Cook’s projects from the Malhavoc Press days, is making a return. Geek Native, back when the site was known as GameWyrd, reviewed the d20 The Diamond Throne and gave it an A-grade.
Here’s the thing. It’s not Monte Cook Games who are being the project to bring the Diamond Throne back and convert it to the Cypher System. Its an Italian company called Here Be Dragons, and they’ve knocked it out of the park. The Kickstarter campaign had a funding goal of €14,000, and within the first week, they’ve had €36,000 pledged. You can see the progress at the campaign page.
The fantasy world of the Diamond Throne is ruled by giants, rich with ritual and magic crystals and with the tyranny of the draconic dramojh, the former overlords, not entirely lost to the past.
A pledge of €30 (about £28) will get you both the Diamond Throne “Unearthed” core book and the Diamond Throne “Evolved” core book, your name mentioned, access to the pledge manager and every PDF stretch goal.
Double that to €60 and in addition to the promises above you also get print versions of Evolved and Unearthed.
If you can stretch to €100, then the stretch goals become print versions as well as digital.
Stretch goals include parts of the trilogy saga Width of a Circle and a world map. Most, stretch goals, though, unlock more content for the main books and more art.
The estimated delivery date for all of this is September 2021, so in a year. Shipping charges will apply, and UK backers will have to take a roll of the dice on Brexit.
