Gekidol is an anime about a group of friends who want to become idols but watch to the end, to the post-credits scene, and you’ll be thrown quite a twist.
The clues are there throughout, becoming increasingly apparent.
The name “Gekidol” is a portmanteau style play on words; Theatre + anime + idol.
When the Gekidol website launched it referenced Shakespeare, paraphrasing;
All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players”
.
The anime is set in the near future and follows a group of girls who want to be part of the 3D-holographic “Theatre Material System”. That gaping sinkhole? That happened five years ago and major cities around the world, erasing many of them.
How the near-apocalyptic elements in Gekidol connect with the singing and dancing isn’t yet clear, but the show will premiere in January 2021.
