“This is not how the world ends” is the prophecy that brings some hope to the snowy realm of Nyth.
Right now, though, it looks like this fantasy 5e setting is heading towards its third magical deep freeze and surely no one will survive this time.
The Fading Embers setting primer is usually $10 and over 135-pages. It’s free for the duration of this Kickstarter and a great way to experience this dangerously cold world. Or you can go straight ahead and check out the Kickstarter.
Geek Native has been tracking Fading Embers in the weeks before the launch and, as a result, you can check out some of the art on the blog.
Rime of the Frostmaiden seems to be popular, and the weather conditions of the frozen north of the Forgotten Realms are nicely different. I think Fading Embers takes that and ramps it up a notch.
If successful, the Kickstarter will deliver three books; the Setting Manual, the Player’s Manual and the Gamemaster’s Manual. That’s a big project, but John Yackel has already Kickstarted the primer and is only asking for $14,000 to fund the set.
However, there are no baby steps in the pledges. That was the primer Kickstarter, and that’s been and gone. Now, if you want in with two of the PDFs, then that’s $30. The logic here is you are either a player and need the Setting Manual and Player’s Manual or a DM and need the Gamemaster’s Manual and the Setting Manual.
Want all three? That’s $50.
The same combo is available for the print books. It’s $55 for two of the books in PDF and print, but $80 for all three.
However, at the time of writing, most people are finding $120 for the limited box set. That adds a custom printed Fading Embers box with a fold-out cloth map and an icy avalore dice set.
The PDFs are due out in June 2021 and the physical goodies in August.
