R Talsorian Games’ Cyberpunk RED is on its way. The digital edition hits on Nov 14 and will cost $30 while the giant 456 physical book is due on Nov 19 and will set you back $60.
The eagle-eyed will notice that that’s about $5 more than previously suggested; however, the book is larger than expected.
Today, the publisher revealed a bit more from inside the RPG. Cyberpunk RED will use a modified Lifepath system.
The Lifepath system for Cyberpunk RED is a series of tables used at the start of character generation to add backgrounds. It’s intended to be a skeleton for the character that the player can flesh out while also making sure the PC has lots of plot hooks for the GM to use.
The general Lifepath includes;
- cultural origins,
- personality,
- clothing style,
- hairstyle,
- “affection you are never without”,
- motivations,
- relationships,
- values,
- original family background,
- your environment,
- family crisis,
- your friends,
- your enemies,
- your tragic love affair,
- life goals.
So, if you use this system, your Cyberpunk RED character will have had a tragic love affair. Players can pick from the tables or roll.
There are also Lifepath tables for the role your character has. R. Talsorian walks us through two with Netrunner and Exec.
The system asks Netrunners what kind of runner they are, whether they work solo or not and what their workspace is like among many other questions. Meanwhile, Corporate Exec players have tables to help determine what sort of Corp their character works for, what Division they are in and whether the Corporation is utterly evil or not.
