Full content visible, double tap to read brief content.

I'm the author of The Jupiter Pirates series, in which we meet Tycho, Yana and Carlo Hashoone. They're part of the crew of the Shadow Comet, and simultaneously siblings and competitors. Each wants to be the next captain of their family's starship -- but only one of them will be chosen.

The Jupiter Pirates is part high-seas adventure and part space-age epic -- I've had a blast writing the first three books and am currently plotting out the second half of the saga. Officially the Jupiter Pirates books are for kids 8-12, but readers far older than that will enjoy them too.

As for me, I'm a writer, editor, and digital-content guy based in Brooklyn, N.Y. I've written more than 50 Star Wars books and short stories, as well as novels set in the Minecraft and Transformers universes. In a previous life I spent more than 12 years at The Wall Street Journal Online, where I wrote the Real Time column about technology and co-wrote The Daily Fix, a daily roundup of great sportswriting. Since 2005 I've co-written Faith and Fear in Flushing (faithandfearinflushing.com), a blog about the New York Mets, with my friend Greg Prince.

If that seems like an odd mix, well, I think so too. But one way or another, I've written or worked with writers nearly all my life. It's all I ever wanted to do, and I'm profoundly grateful that I've been able to do it.

Whether you're writing about a far-off galaxy or a nearby baseball team, the path to becoming a successful writer is the same: Write every day, learn from other writers and from good editors, push your writing to make sure it's as clear and engaging as possible, and value every form of writing you get to do. And be nice -- it takes a team to get a book from idea to bookstore shelves, and everyone else involved deserves your help, respect and gratitude.

Incredible backstory to the Star Wars universe. In addition to the violent days of the galaxy before the Republic, to those uncertain days of the Early Republic, there has been a rich history fleshed out to give life to the worlds of the Core, to the Outer Rim, to Hutt Space and all the worlds in between. In this masterful work the hows and whys of cutting edge technologies, the complexities of inter-space travel are illustrated. In addition to different personalities, orders and followers of The Force(Jedi and Sith) and civilizations and species that have contributed each in their own unique way to the evolution and formation of the Republic and galaxy. Chronicled are the growing pains faced by every generation of Republic leadership. On several occasions the reader will notice that the Republic was in immanent danger of imploding due to poor choices made by Republic ruling parties, on these occasions the citizenry were lucky to count on the Jedi Order to rescue and/or correct the sinking ship. This is an amazing read which will give incredible depth to the Star Wars universe for the fan who craves "a little more" as well as those who wonder how it all came to be and where it might be going. It seems to me that it is not unlike our own galaxy. It is a living breathing thing, constantly in motion, ever changing, evolving, and adapting. One thing is for sure and those who provide insight into this universe provide that war is a constant, and like in our own existence one day it may be the end of us.

This book goes over the entire legends time line from a military point of view, showing ships and military officers throughout the entire time line, great pictures and has a lot of tid-bits. I recommend reading the sections of these books after reading the source material behind it OR if you want to skip a certain book series ( like the new Jedi order series for me ) then this gives a good overview
I recommend this but know that it's (1) legends and (2) works best alongside the original books from which it was sourced

This was a book I hesitated about getting, due to wondering if it would really expand upon the Essential Chronology. I was wrong to think that. There's some impressive details given about key battles (some of them unmentioned before) and the people involved in them. In many cases the author avoids assuming the reader knows too much about a certain well established Star Wars event and carefully builds it up (although there are exceptions). The new details about the Grand Admirals was welcome. The writer also avoids covering certain events in such detail that it spoils the original work they came form, which I appreciated. My only serious complaint is that there are certain events receive too little attention. I can't even remember if the Black Fleet Crisis was mentioned at all half a week after reading this. The Battle of Endor was a little sparser on detail than I'd have liked. And most importantly, the Sith Wars are grossly downplayed, with hardly anything between Naga Sadow and the Batle of Ruusan receiving more than a sentence or two despite thousands of years of conflicts between them I was hopeful for more insight about. Overall though, I'm glad I got this book and pleased it was so cheap on the kindle.

Perfect for any fan who has always wated to know how many guns does a star destroyer have? or how exactly a blaster works. Its almost like a history book with general profiles first hand accounts of battles like Endor from an imperial perspective. ( spoiler ewoks are vicious and devious) And cool pictures of ships and battles. It's a great read for any fan casual or otherwise with lots of references to fan favorites like admiral Thrawn, mandalorians, Han solo and of course the Jedi order. Lots of detail and I think a must have for fans of warfare in the galaxy far far away.

So, not sure if it's just me, but Amazon is so great that I've gotten into the habit of seeing something I want out in a mall or store somewhere, looking it up on Amazon, seeing it's so much cheaper and deciding it's worth the 5 days of shipping time to save half the cost. The Amazon iPhone app even has a barcode scanner, so in the store you can immediately see how much you can save if you're patient.

I feel pretty bad about doing this, because I'm directly contributing to the failure of retail stores... but I don't think EVERYONE shops on Amazon, just the SMART ONES. :)

So I saw this book in a bookstore and wanted it immediately. Looked it up on Amazon and it was something like $20 cheaper. Well worth the wait. Awesome book about tones of Star Wars Technologies and goodies. A must have for any Fan Boy!

I am learning so much about the Star Wars universe from this book. More than I could with just Google searches. I enjoyed the pre and ancient Republic history chapters a must have book.

I'm what I consider a "casual" Star Wars fan. I grew up watching the original trilogy, enjoyed watching my own son grow up with the last three movies, and I read an occasional Star Wars book(mostly the tech related "manuals" rather than the various story lines). I ordered this on a whim and reading this makes me feel like a kid again. If you want to learn all about the Star Wars Universe, all in one place, then I'd say this is a "must buy"! This book is extremely detailed and packed full of Star Wars history-all of it. The artwork is abundant and fantastic. It's obvious that a lot of time went into the creation of this gem and I consider it a terrific deal at $20.00. 243(large) pages of entertaining and informative reading for all Star Wars fans.

Although no longer canon, this is a very helpful guide to understanding the structure (and history) of the various galactic militaries across the ages. There is such a dearth of canon information about the bureaucracy, logistics, and organization of Grand Army of the Republic that this is honestly the best resource if you're looking to model RPG campaigns or write in-universe campaign histories -- most of it can be reconciled to or cross-referenced with current canon (if only because there's nothing out there to say otherwise) and where it can't, well, there some great in-universe stories and accounts, solid information about various technologies (best explanation of shield properties I've ever read), and really cool aartwork in here to make it worthwhile. Put simply, even if it's outdated, it's an excellent resource for adding military texture to one's understanding of the GFFA. Highly recommended.
