- Reviewed in the United States on May 3, 2017Love the Jennings books. The book description of the supporting characters differs from those we know on TV but it does not take away from the enjoyment of the well-developed stories.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 8, 2014An excellent and educational - if you like history - story with a satisfying mystery in the end. Ms. Jennings books always compel her reader to turn the next page.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 13, 2017This was another excellent mystery by Maureen Jennings. Her Murdoch Mysteries are always fun to sit down and read on a cold winter afternoon! - Reviewed in the United States on May 4, 2017I like this series by the author, on which the TV series "Murdock Mysteries" is based. The books are a bit more "baser" than the TV shows, but also more realistic, showing the Victorian era as not sparkling "clean". I have read the first five of this book series and intend to continue, so that in itself is an endorsement. To go into detail about the book contents would ruin the mystery, but suffice to say, the book is a crime investigation drama, in which the main character must assist his condemned father to find the actual murderer, for which he is to hang.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 7, 2013IF YOU ARE A FAN OF THE MURDOCK MYSTERY SERIES FROM CANADA YOU WILL BE A LITTLE SURPRISED BY THE BOOKS. IN THE BOOKS MURDOCK DRINKS AND IS A WOMANIZER UNLIKE THE TV SERIES. ALSO DR OGDEN IS AN OLDER WOMAN AND HAS LITTLE TO DO IN THE MYSTERIES AND CONSTABLE CRABTREE IS AN OLDER FAT MAN WITH SEVERAL KIDS IN THE BOOKS WHILE HE IS A YOUNG UNMARRIED MAN IN THE SERIES. THERE ARE SEVERAL OTHER GLARING DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE SERIES AND THE SIX BOOKS.
OVERALL THE MURDOCK MYSTERY SERIES, EVEN THOUGH SLIGHTLY! UNBELIEVABLE ARE VERY INTERESTING TO WATCH AND WILL PROVIDE MANY ENTERTAINING HOURS AS MURDOCK INVENTS NEW CRIME TOOLS AND MEETS FAMOUS PEOPLE LIKE ALEXANDER GRAHAM BELL, ARTHUR CONAN DOYLE AND ANNIE OAKLEY.
HAVING SAID THIS, YOU WILL FIND THE BOOKS A LITTLE BLAND AS THESE DO NOT HAPPEN IN THE BOOKS. BUT I WOULD STILL HIGHLY RECOMMEND THESE MYSTERIES AS GOOD STAND ALONE READING. JUST REALIZE THEY DO NOT FOLLOW THE BELOVED SERIES AT ALL.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 13, 2016It's a good mystery. However, there's no Dr. Ogden. And no comedy.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 13, 2021What a well developed storyline
Mysteries abound
Endings become beginnings
Dogs are part of the story
- Reviewed in the United States on August 10, 2015I love David Marantz's narration of this book. This book is about the dog baiting where dogs are trained to go after rats in a pen. The rats cannot get out. The dogs get worked up in a frenzy and the most number of dogs that kills the most rats is the winner. There of course is a murder in this book and a post mortem examination of a human being. I would of course recommend the book and audiobook for this course.

5.0 out of 5 stars Un très bon policier
Pour ceux qui aiment la série, comme moi, les différences sont nombreuses, mais le caractère très humain de Murdoch reste et fait que j'ai beaucoup aimé.
