About the authors

Mark Waid, a New York Times bestselling author, has written for a wider variety of well-known pop-culture characters and franchises than any other American author, from Superman to Star Wars to the Justice League to Archie to Spider-Man and many, many others. His award-winning work with artist Alex Ross, KINGDOM COME, is one of the best-selling graphic novels of all time. (Secretly, however, he prefers SUPERMAN: BIRTHRIGHT and his IRREDEEMABLE collections as his favorite works he's produced.)
Additionally, Waid is a leader in the digital comics medium. His publishing imprint, Thrillbent.com, hosts an enormous collection of multimedia stories in all genres.
With over thirty years of experience in his field, Waid happily mentors young writers and maintains a blog at www.markwaid.com that is full of advice for beginning writers and experienced authors both.

- Reviewed in the United States on September 12, 2013The Avengers is on a short list of my favorite television shows. This graphic novel brings it back home.
The artwork is superb, The feeling very close to the thrill of the original,
The story had a few holes however such as how all those people, including S&MP, end up in the nuclear bunker? Where was this radio Steed used to contact the actual English government? How did that old age drug connect with the rest of the plot?
Nevertheless, it was certainly a good feeling to have this storyline back!
- Reviewed in the United States on May 14, 2015I want to get the other in the series. The stories are juvenile but I enjoy the graphics. Makes me want to take up drawing again
- Reviewed in the United States on February 20, 2015Well done great story line vol 1 continues into vol 2 very good graphics.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 18, 2017As a lifelong "Avengers" fan, I found this effort extremely disappointing.
The cover by Joseph Linser is brilliant, and that's where the good art ends. Will Sliney's interior job is very amateurish and he has no facility for likenesses or caricatures at all. His Steed, for example, sometimes has a vague hint of Patrick Macnee, sometimes of Ralph Fiennes, but most often of nobody at all. His storytelling ability is lacking. I'm sure it's not from lack of trying, and someday he might be a fine comics artist, but you won't see it here. It was so distracting, in fact, that I really can't say much about the story itself from Waid and Monroe.
If you want to enjoy a well-done "Avengers" comics, I recommend spending your shekels on the "Steed and Mrs. Peel" series that Grant Morrison and Ian Gibson did, which has style and substance, like its source material!

5.0 out of 5 stars Once more, the Hellfire Club
This next offering of Steed and Mrs Peel suggests that the on-going series is going to be very exciting. This current graphic novel collects the first three parts of a story which pits John Steed and Emma Peel back up against the Hellfire Club, which was originally featured in the 60s episodes on television. The story-telling from Mark Waid and the shared artwork captures Steed and Mrs Peel rather well, along with adding to the atmosphere of the series as it appeared FIFTY years ago as an ATV production. Great stuff! Can't wait for volume two and the conclusion of the current storyline. Hopefully, Boom will bring back the Cybernauts at some stage...

2.0 out of 5 stars Die Avengers in der Version von Mark Waid
Subjektiv: Die Artwork hat mir nicht gefallen, etliche Panels sind hingepfuscht; der Stil paßt nicht zur Kultserie der 60er. Die Story ist unlogisch und vor allem völlig überzogen.
Objektiv: Die Avengers TV-Serie ist very british, (selbst)ironisch, skurril, charmant, zurückhaltend sexy.

2.0 out of 5 stars pour les couvertures
Seul intérêt de cette série: les couvertures, splendides, et le fait de retrouver Madame Peel, toujours aussi exquise. L'intérieur, par contre, est en-deçà et peine à convaincre.
