- Reviewed in the United States on January 9, 2013I'll start off by saying that I'm a huge RE nerd. I love this stuff and the novels by Mrs. Perry are amazing and I recommend them to any RE fan. I first read these books right after RE0 was released on the GameCube. I also recommended these be released on the Kindle about ten times over the past two years, so when they finally were I snatched them all up on their release dates!
Resident Evil: Code Veronica
I believe this is the second longest book in the series and rightfully so it has a lot of ground to cover. You not only get to see Claire and Chris’s point of view you also see some of Steve, Alfred, Alexia, and Wesker. This is one book that I feel was a little truncated. You don’t get to see a lot of Chris’s campaign and a bunch of his stuff from the game was left out. Some of Claire’s campaign was also shortened. I could see why though because this could have made the book almost twice as long as it already was. The book is beautifully written and very descriptive in locations and personalities. I think that’s what I like best about these novels. You can really see the character and either their true inner good or evil. This is number five on my list of the seven.
Note:
If you've played the games then I would recommend that you read these books in numerical order (making RE0 last). There are some discrepancies between the books because the RE universe has been tweaked and updated for clarification over the past fifteen years or so. Mrs. Perry does mention this at the beginning of her books and for the most part they still flow together nicely and don't take away from stories at all.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 26, 2016I had read all the S.D. Perry Resident Evil books besides this one... because I hate Code Veronica. Sure the series owes eas(ier) knife runs to the engine introduced in the game this book is adapted from but it's the one Resident Evil story I found to be so ridiculous that it was hard for me to suspend my disbelief. We went from an evil corporation carrying out heinous experiments in secret with some good people that happened to stumble into the mess to.... weird, Hitchcock knock off, rich, borderline Incestuous, murdering twins that live on a secluded island, a guy you SAW killed by getting stabbed through in the first game returning (just because,) and the most annoying stupid (oh no Claire, I'm gonna run off by myself with all these monsters around because your a girl and I'm 17 and don't know what to do) supporting character in the entire series! It just felt really incongruous with the rest of the series to that point. To make it worse, the plot was told in a muddled way in the game.
Cue this book.
This author worked MIRACLES for this plot! For one, she streamlined the puzzle areas from the game and cut out or modified anything that would make the story loop and backtrack too much. (Like that crap with the metal detector and brief case.) She also weaved nice supporting back story in. (She writes in Chris talking to Leon and Barry and preparing before he goes to Rockfort so it's not just a drop in out of nowhere.) She makes Alfred Ashford not just an annoying villain but writes about his messed up thought process so you can hate him even more, but for the right reasons! (The part about the doctor's diary in the dungeon is a perfect example.) That's probably the single most important thing she did was add depth to the characters so you could understand them better. (She sets a mini story for Rodrigo so you care about what happens to him. I actually like Steve better thanks to this book; that is a Herculean feat!) You get to see what all the characters are thinking and how they are feeling and what motivates them; it just adds so much to the story that the game was missing.
Bottom line: if you played Code Veronica and hated it; delete your memories of that game by over-writing them with this book. If you are catching up on your retro-gaming; skip playing Code Veronica and read this book instead.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 16, 2023*spoilers*
This was finally a book of decent length. I enjoyed the feeling of a more developed narrative, and with still just a minimum number of characters. I was happy to finally have Chris and Claire reunited, that was a nice goal to check off. I kinda feel like our new friend Steve got shafted. I'm not upset he died, just that it felt too quick, like he deserved at least a bit more to his end story-a few more scenes, if you will.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 22, 2023Big fan of the RE series, have been since '96! Collect almost every RE thing I see. I had the original S. D. Perry books, but thought I'd get the. new ones with a new cover on the same old book!

- Reviewed in the United States on October 13, 2022Love SD's renditions of the resident evil series. Only reason I gave four stars is because I'm not a big fan of the whole story of code veronica - probably my least favorite of all the games. But SD Perry does a fabulous job with all the books!

5.0 out of 5 stars Bonne réception du livre et coûts enfin raisonnables
Merci, merci beaucoup.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not an original copy but a print to order reprint.
Book in good condition/quality. However is a print to order reprint (not a genuine copy) which is not specified in the item description. Still looks great as part of a set though.

4.0 out of 5 stars
