Review
"Something you’re going to want to add to your collection" - Atomic Moo
"Compared to other art books based on popular video games, BF4′s art book is larger and packed with more content. Based on its size, the quality of the printing and art inside, The Art of Battlefield 4 is on par with a high-brow, coffee table art book you’d find at the bookstore." - Gaming Illustrated
"Who knew that FPS could be so damned pretty? Fans of the series, or anyone who appreciates fine concept art, would be remiss to pass this one up." - Delta Attack
"If you’re a true Battlefield junkie, this full-page and and informative art book is definitely worth checking out." - MP1st
"A gorgeous, detailed book." - Uproxx
"If you love the Battlefield series, and want to have a deeper understanding of what goes into creating it, then this book is for you!" - Nerdy But Flirty
"If you’re fan of Battlefield, this book is a must." - Retrenders
"Features awesome art from and inspired by the game." - Game Informer
"No fan of the Battlefield series will want to miss out on this visually stunning high-end book!" - Under the Radar
"With its own personal story of the inner workings of the video game industry accompanied by some of the finest production art that money can buy, this book is strongly recommended for anyone seeking an in-depth peek at what it takes to make a great game series. 10 out of 10" - Critiques 4 Geeks

- Reviewed in the United States on August 31, 2019Although the game itself, the singleplayer campaign was not as good as the very interesting Battlefield 3 campaign, the artbook was surprisingly packed with lots of cool environment art and it was quite enjoyable to browse through.
Shame there was never an artbook released for either Battlefield 3 or Hardline...
- Reviewed in the United States on January 13, 2015the book is great and pack with a lot of art works from the game. I would recommend this to any fan or concept artist in the industry. Note: its almost all environment concepts art works
- Reviewed in the United States on August 28, 2015Nice 'behind the scene' images and artwork for the game.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 15, 2013This book is really good, its mostly environment and landscape sketches and concepts, but still there
beautiful renderings. A few pages are spent on the actual soldier concepts as well as the stories behind
the camo and outfits. I wish they would have done vehicle sketches but again its mostly landscapes, but
still worth the price.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 12, 2013i was expecting a book that presented the full process of creating the artwork for battlefield 4. this book contains loads of concept art, which is great. however, the artwork presented is almost exclusively "speed paints" or paintovers to roughly visualize an idea or mood of an environment, but there are hardly any finessed "final" pieces. also, out of 192 pages only around 10 pages are devoted to character art and none at all to equipment, vehicles and weapons. there are no examples of 3d models or sculpts(again - all 2d concept)and the bulk of the book is devoted to the single player campaign. this is very surprising since the battlefield series is mostly known for it's multiplayer, while campaign is mostly an afterthought. only the last, very small section of the book is mp-centric and again, all art is very rough concept work and nothing else. it would've been nice to see the progression from these rough "idea" pieces to the final in-game artwork.
the biggest offense comes in the fact that none of the artwork is attributed to the artist that created it. many "art of" books call out the specific artist to each single image within, this one doesn't. only the last page lists the handful of concept artists involved in the production of the game. sad...
i was expecting a lot more - 3d models, final concepts, character sheets, etc - but this is basically a collection of conceptart.org or deviantart.com quality environment concept work. unless you're a really big fan of the battlefield series or a budding concept artist looking for inspiration for "roughing in" environments - then skip this book.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 23, 2018Its mostly campaign concept art, I wish it had more multiplayer concepts but thats whatever. Still interesting. Recommend if you're into this kind of thing.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 22, 2013The media could not be loaded.
About 90 per cent of the artworks featured are for environment art. Places included are for Shanghai, the naval battle, airfield, prison, mountains, Dam City, Suez and a small portion for multiplayer. The setting is pretty much urban in cities with buildings with occasional breaks into the sea and mountains.
There are only a few pages of character design and they are of course soldiers decked out in full military gear. For a game with military elements, there are strangely no designs for any weapons and vehicles. Zilch, unless you want to count the arms that the soldiers carry in their hands. No 3D models or renders. The uniforms are quite cool though. Can't imagine how soldiers actually move while carrying so many stuff that weigh them down.
The environment art felt very clinical. There are detailed as well as rough pieces. Many, I think, are digital painting over 3D models, not a style that I'm fond of.
Lighting, atmosphere, textures and details are all captured well but something just do not feel right. Comparatively, I like the rougher pieces, such as those of battleships, or just anything that does not feel like they are painted over 3D models.
One interesting thing to note is they had only one concept artist for Battlefield 3 and five for this sequel.
My main gripe is on the style of the environment art. You might like it, you might not. So I'll definitely recommend that you look through the pages before buying.
3.5 out of 5 stars.
