About the author

Welcome to my Amazon biography.
My name is Tom Church.
I hate having to write these kind of things. I really, really do.
So, where to begin? How about: I was born in England, in 1979. It's a bit boring isn't it? I think so.
How about we get to know one another? My interests? Good question.
History has to be one. Science and current affairs too. Reading and writing would also merit a mention, of course. What about you? So you like to read as well? Is fantasy an interest to you at all? Yes? Well, I say . . . step into my office . . . come . . . don't be shy . . .
My first published body of work are three novels set in the RuneScape universe. RuneScape is a massively-multiplayer-online-role-playing-game (or a MMORPG for short). They are published by Titan Books, and the first in the series is 'Betrayal at Falador.'
The works have been received positively by a great number of readers. That said, the books have been written for any fantasy fan to enjoy, even those who are totally unfamiliar with the RuneScape game. They feature great moments of Epic Fantasy: grand battles, characters with uncertain histories, monsters and magic, knights and politics, religions and barbarians, werewolves and vampires, and most importantly, intensive character building and development.
My latest planned book, which I have just published via Kindle, is 'Prince Armatus and the Dragon,' which draws inspiration from early 1500s Europe and the conflict between the Ottoman Empire and other European powers, such as Byzantium and the Fall of Constantinople.
So, please make yourself comfortable, and feel free to join me on Twitter and Facebook too (under TS Church).
I look forward to making your acquaintance.

- Reviewed in the United States on August 28, 2017This book was so much better than I expected it to be! Church did an amazing job with this book, truly. Deep characters, a diverse cast, character development, plot development, multiple interlocking plots, over three acts- I didn't count them- it's all here, and done well. The constant sexism did strike me as odd though, given women are actually warriors in this universe. Saradomin's right hand is Zilyana, and has been for thousands of years after all. But that was a minor detail, really, lost in a book of awesomeness. All Runescape fans should read this.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 12, 2012So writing from the perspective of someone who does not play Runescape (I've actually never heard of it) the three books in this story are really pretty good. The characteristics are interesting, well-developed with some attention to flaws and personality so that they are not "wooden." The story line is also good. One of the best things about this series is that, although I don't recommend it, each book stands on its own. Although it really is better to start at the beginning, Book 3 can be read by itself.
These books are worth the invested time and money.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 8, 2019I can't ding any stars because I got exactly what I ordered, but if they offered this in Hardcover, I would definitely add a 6th star. This really is such a great book, especially for those people that have played the actual game and enjoy a good novel.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 20, 2024If you’re like me and grew up playing RuneScape, then surely this is a book that peaked your interests.
I’ll be honest, this book is a hard read at times. It’s all over the place and it’s hard to even keep track of what is going on. There is also a ton of errors and run on side stories that add no substance to the book.
That being said, it’s still a pretty good story and plot. All of the RuneScape affiliated things are fairly accurate (places, things, and names). It’s very easy for a RuneScape player to imagine and paint a vivid picture of the story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing
I had good expectations for this book but I never thought they would surpass them like this book did. I've been playing Runescape since I was about 6 so it's been about 6 years (I'm 12). The delivery was fast and the book was amazing. If you're hesitating to buy it, don't, just buy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Game Changer
Currently looking at my Kindle and it shows me that I've read 25% of this book. It is truly great that i'm actually writing a review before finishing it. The way it reads is perfect, it really brings the reader into the realm, makes me feel as-if i'm a Knight in Falador. I'm still not sure at the age the book has been written for, obviously RuneScape players cover a wide demographic it would be silly to make one target audience. My concern before buying this book was it would be targeting the younger audience of the game, encouraging them to read. I'm actually pleasantly surprised to say that is not the case, although i would not go in stopping any younger players to read it. The vast vocabulary the author uses appeals to the older audience but will help the younger audience learn new words.
You could take RuneScape away from this book and it would still be a great read. Although, when the author mentions items, skills or places from the game it does bring a smile because i also have that knowledge, therefore making me feel like i'm actually in the world. It really changes the game in my perspective, how they talk about adamant swords with such a high order but, in-game i simply skipped through to Rune. It will make me appreciate the game a lot more.
