About the author

Gunnar Roxen is a work of fiction. Half-English, half-Swedish Gunnar grew up in the forested heartlands of Sweden. Raised with the myths and sagas, Gunnar grew up with the stories of gods and goddesses of Asgard, the frost giants of Jontunheim and the Viking traders, raiders and settlers. He grew up with the sense of freedom learned while tracking elk in the northern forests.
In the UK he gained his passion for exploring. Old train stations, abandoned hospitals, and crumbling films sets were fertile hunting grounds for his imagination. In another life Gunnar has been a games designer, serial entrepreneur, an activist, a science communicator and a whole lot of trouble. Gunnar lives in Oxford with his wonderful wife and two cats.
Gunnar has a strong passion for detective fiction, adventure novels and science fiction. His favourite authors include Richard Morgan, Tony Hillerman, Clive Cussler, James Lovegrove, HP Lovecraft, China Mieville and Arthur Conan Doyle.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 15, 2012This is the first sci-fi/futuristic novel I've read in decades; I found the storyline well thought out.
Since the synopsis is already included on the amazon site, I will not repeat the information but will contribute my assessment.
1. I love the author's ability to create a fascinatingly believable city of the future...it took me a number of pages however before I figured out the calendar was 2500 years ahead. I liked the development of a new caste system that reminded me somewhat of Dickensian descriptiveness. Even British weather fit right in.
2. The narrative alternated with a good back story that gradually emerged to clarify the main character's history.
3. The author successfully built up tension and described strong action scenes. Note that some readers might find there was a bit too much violence.
4. I was impressed by the intelligent use of language throughout most of the book and was therefore mystified by the number of spelling and grammatical errors that grated significantly on my ear. These fell into several categories.
By mentioning the following examples of specifics, I would hope the author can revise and repost a corrected copy.
~~use of wrong, sound-alike words: peel for peal (of thunder), shoe-in for shoo-in, confidant for confident, sleight for slight, repeated use of discrete for discreet, alter for altar, the "hear and now" for here and the problematic " they both grit their teeth and bared it."
~~stumbles with past tense and past participles: lent for leaned, lead for led, inlayed for inlaid + simple errors such as "who's murder" instead of whose.
~~ grammatical errors that regularly employed "I" where "me" was called for: "would you like to join Clarice and I?"; "if you will excuse John and I" etc.
~~minor point of fact-checking: one time Governor Sagacious had ruled for 25 years; another time it said 28.
5. Most of the dialogue flowed well until the last third or so of the book where the reader encountered less than scintillating (and jarringly current) exchanges along the lines of : "Damn straight!"; "It is bad, John. Very bad."; "Wow, I am speechless."; "Colour me intrigued" and my favorite "your scumbag friends [will] fry for your crimes."
Ending on a positive note, I enjoyed the fashion, architectural and even weaponry details plus the futuristic devices that were "translatable" by today's reader such as the vids, comms, gravs, stims and scavs. The book kept my interest, and I would definitely read others by the author,...hopefully with better proofreading. By the way Lovelace is my new hero!

5.0 out of 5 stars Rollicking sci-fi detective thriller
I'm a fan of sci-fi and detective stories, so this book looked like it would be right up my street. I wasn't wrong, and I was impressed by the fast pace of the story and the careful design of the central plot - essential in a detective story and something that's not always there! The story (without giving too much away) links murders and suicides to a dark plot hatched amongst the corrupt higher echelons of society, with elements of sci-fi, thriller and horror as well as old-fashioned detective work. Although this is (apparently) the first book in a series, the plot is nicely tied up at the end of the book, so you're not left hanging, just wanting more.
The book is set in a future London, considerably darker than our own but not unrecognisable. The setting is the backdrop to the story but not the main focus - although there are hints of dark and powerful pasts, the leads are primarily just doing their job and trying to get by. The two leads themselves were also well developed and believable, and by the end of the book you're left wanted to know more about them and their pasts.
In general, the tone of the book was grown-up without being overtly shocking, although there are one or two more gruesome moments. It's a debut novel and, as you'd expect, the use of language can be a little raw at times but I'm sure the author will grown further into his style as the series progresses.
Recommended, and looking forward to the next one.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Stunning Debut
My taste in books tends to lend itself to any genre as long as I find a connection with the characters and lose myself in the story. This is exactly that kind of novel. Although a work of science fiction, like any good book, it speaks to current events and times.
It features a well paced narrative that doesn't make the typical sci-fi errors of relying too heavily on action (although there's plenty) or substituting a good plot for pseudo-science and pointless technical trivia.
The future presented here is matter of fact, real and above all, relatable. The pages turn themselves as you root for the main protagonists and follow their adventures. The author has clearly got a passionate and deep understanding of the world he's writing about in the book. Not only do you find yourself engrossed in the characters and locations, but also the greater universe hinted at throughout the novel. It even manages a wry stab at our modern way of life and religion!
A stunning debut and hopefully the first of many...I for one will be counting the days until the next installment.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exciting futuristic thriller, great first novel!
I can highly recommend The Wyld Hunt - it's a fast-paced thriller set in a gritty, future London, where technology might let you fly around the city, but people are still people.
I really engaged with the two main characters, Aries and Lovelace, a mismatched pair of detectives. I liked the way the hidden history of the characters was slowly eked out, allowing the reader to try and guess how it fitted in with the present case they were investigating. And I liked how their relationship ebbs and flows, from initially not really knowing each other very well to beginning to trust each.
There is some violence in this novel, but it's mostly action movie violence, with only one really gruesome scene, that I felt was justified because it showed us just how nasty one of the bad guys was.
I'm looking forward to future books in the Agency Case Files series, so I can find out more about the characters and the world they live in.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exciting sci-fi thriller!!!
I usually dont read sci-fi books, but as I know the author I decided to give it a go! To my surprise I was hooked from the beginning, I found it very exciting and had trouble putting it down. At the time I did a lot of travelling on the tube and at one time I missed my stop because of being immersed into the book. I am so looking forward to the next book as I want to know more about the main people. If you are not a sci-fi reader I recommend to try this book, I loved the whole story about a future London and I found the descriptions of places very real and sometimes very bleak but facinating.
Recommended!!!!
