The series is based off the 2016 novel Lovecraft Country by Matt Ruff. I think a trip from book to TV in less than four years is pretty impressive.
The art of Tale: the role-playing game
It was the cover art that caught my attention for the Kickstarter pitch for Tale. I wasn’t the only one as the game has funded and, at the time of writing, has a week left on the clock to collect more pledges. You can follow the progress of the campaign here. [Back this Campaign] A […]
20% off for the August 20th birthday: Lovecraft turns 128
August 20th is H. P. Lovecraft’s 128th birthday. Despite the writer’s racist views, strong even for his time, he has become a major influence on modern horror. The OneBookShelf family are offering 20% off on a wide range of Cthulhu, Great Old One and Lovecraft flavoured items for the next few days. Let’s take a […]
Twister with tentacles! A’Writhe: A game of Eldritch contortions
It’s not April 1st. I don’t think it’s April 1st. It might be the end of the world, though, as we summon Great Old Ones together. WizKids has a new game in American stores today, and it safely described as Twister with a Cthulhu theme. Twister with tentacles? You play in teams of two; one […]
Genre Police: Crafted By Love
Yes. You Guessed it. It’s the Obligatory Cthulhu Column. Or ‘Cosmic Horror’ if you will. The genre owes a great deal to Lovecraft’s original creations, so much so that discussing the genre is essentially a dissection of mythos works. So this column is going to be a little more focused than usual. Something faceless owns […]
Do note poke the Deep Ones and other Cthulhu coasters
[I wnt these] Etsy retailer Creations STG have these excellent Cthulhu themed coasters for sale. They’re exactly what you’d want to have on your gaming table for friends visiting to play Call of Cthulhu or if you’ve a D&D Warlock with a certain patron… I especially like that three of the four coasters are straight […]
Genre Police: Oh The Horror!
Over the next few columns we are going to be diving into Horror. While we’ve looked at topics that have bordered the genre before, we haven’t dived right into its black heart. The problem with horror is that it very quickly divides into a massive set of sub-genre specifics. Poe, Lovecraft, King, Bright, Barker are […]
H.P. Lovecraft Preparatory School hits Kickstarter
Last month we asked Cthulhu or Potter when Third Eye Games announced H.P. Lovecraft Preparatory School. Now the game is on Kickstarter, seeking just US$4,000 to fund, and there’s a chance to review the pitch for ourselves.
Cthulhu or Potter? H.P. Lovecraft Preparatory School
Third Eye Games has announced a Kickstarter for H.P. Lovecraft. Geek Native reached out to owner Eloy Lasanta and asked whether the game would feel more like Cthulhu or the shenanigans of a certain boy wizard. This is the response; Good question! HPL Prep has all the schooling and fantasy feel, but instead of students […]
Cthulhu Christmas? Nah, go Dreamlands instead
Studio WonderCabinet have history in running successful Lovecraft Kickstarter. This year they’re back and asking for $3,000 for The Dreamlands set of wrapping paper and Christmas cards. They already have $6,000 in the pot and, at the time of writing, more than 20 days to collect more funds. The catch? They’re encouraging Europeans to consider […]
