Superhero Week: DC has announced ‘The Flash: Escape the Midnight Circus’ – a scripted podcast series

July 2, 2023 by Bronwen Winter Phoenix Leave a Comment

In an interesting turn of events, considering just how badly The Flash is doing at the box office (thanks no doubt to Ezra Miller controversy), Warner Bros. has just announced a new DC project in the form of a podcast entitled The Flash: Escape the Midnight Circus.

March 31, 2020 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

How much might this collection be worth now? Well, in 2014 a single issue of Action Comics #1 sold for $3.2 million and before that, in 2010, Detective Comics #27 sold for $1.075 million.

Superhero Week: 6 speed draws of superheroes!

July 5, 2018 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Have you watched a speed draw on YouTube yet? I find them mesmerising and a reminder of how little (read: none) artistic skill I have. I love to watch them, though, whether we’re watching a Photoshop pro user speed through the controls to bring a hero to life or someone with inks in their hands […]

Superhero Week: Superhero cospaint!

July 5, 2017 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Cosplay is going strong… and cospaint is picking up interest. One of the things cospaint has going for it is that it makes for dramatic YouTube montages and long running Twitch streams. The queen of superhero cospaint is Kay Pike. We’ve featured her work on Geek Native before but since it’s Superhero Week let’s share […]

What if superheroes had part time jobs?

May 8, 2015 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Artist Chow Hon Lam has a great series of illustrations exploring funny part time jobs for superheroes and geek culture figures. There’s a sample below and you can see the rest over at the official collection. I also recommend checking out the store at Flying Mouse 365 where you can pick up many of these […]

What if the Green Arrow and Flash ran a fight club?

April 15, 2015 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8XE_jH2eQl4 A spoiler free/light combined trailer for the CW’s showing of Arrow and Flash. You’ll get to see a bunch of baddies and a few other appearances as well. Seems pretty clear who would win in a cage fight…

Superheroes and words of wisdom

August 3, 2014 by Andrew Girdwood 3 Comments

Adam Thompson is a graphic designer based in Carbondale, USA. His series Heroic Words of Wisdom is designed to try and bring some of iconic superhero dialogue out from the pages of comic books and to a wider audience. In my mind, one of the most famous pieces of comics dialogue is the oath sworn […]

Superhero Week: Mike Mahle’s Justice League Series

July 6, 2014 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Mike Mahle draws superheroes and sirens with bold colours and brave lines. It’s a style I adore and so encourage you to stalk his Facebook and admire his Deviant Art. The images below are part of his Justice League series. He manages to make them look far more interesting than some of the official covers […]

Superhero Week: Behind the scenes at The Flash pilot episode

July 5, 2014 by Andrew Girdwood 1 Comment

This is almost painful to post. I’m still waiting for Arrow season 2 to appear on Amazon Instant Video or Netflix in the UK. It’s Arrow which introduces Flash. Meanwhile, there’s no news as to whether The CW has signed a license deal to take The Flash to the UK. That’s painful because this featurette […]
