If you’re hanging with friends and family this festive season and have hours to fill but can’t use them to teach the rules of a 300-page RPG, then you might wish you had Five Sided Fates’ SpeedyRPG.
You’ll have to wait, though, as Kairi Celeste’s SpeedyRPG has just hit Kickstarter with a £2,927. Ironically, it won’t be a rushed Kickstarter, and perhaps appropriately for the holiday season, has been set 60-days to run.
SpeedyRPG requires a GM, but the cards used in the system provide the scenario. The cards also provide characters. The system uses a d20 and bonuses, with the GM arbitrating on success.
In the game, characters have three stats: Heart, Mind and Body, which are used with actions.
For example, if Punchy Sixpack wants to attack the pirate invaders with the Sword of Polymorph, have them roll the d20 + their Body stat + the Sword of Polymorph stat. Then you decide if that attack was successful based on how high they rolled. Feel free to tell them what number they’re trying to reach, or keep it a secret for more anticipation. Then play continues through a brief story, really however long you want to go.
Backers who contribute $30 or more will get a SpeedyRPG as a reward, a drawstring bag and even d20.
There is one more tier, but it’s a jump-up, and the next one is $200. Added to that is a reward where contributors can design character cards.
Five Sided Fates estimates delivery in April 2024, can ship worldwide and will run the Kickstarter all the way to February 19th.
