Dave Morris and Jamie Thomson are the authors of Dragon Warriors and Fabled Lands, an RPG and choose your own adventure series. Together, they’ve been working on a game setting inspired by the gritty Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay setting and Japan’s Sengoku series.
Today, Earl of Fife Games has announced a licensing deal to bring the setting to life using the Heroes & Hardship Core Rulebook. There will be expanded rules to further enhance play in the fantasy lands of Yamato.
Dave Morris told Geek Native;
Jamie and I have been hoping that Tetsubo would see the light of day ever since we originally started work on it in the 1990s. it’s a perfect natural fit for fans of Japanese folklore and Mizoguchi and Kurosawa movies like us. Well, here we are in the next century and Tetsubo has finally found the right home and the right rules system. We’re looking forward to seeing it appear and we’re looking forward to playing it too.”
Heroes & Hardship is a universal RPG system, suitable for any genre, which uses d10 pools and allows hundreds of options for varied character generation. The game will hit Kickstarter next month.
Jason Duff of Earl of Fife Games added;
I am excited to see Tetsubō finally come to life in 2023. And equally excited that it is for Heroes & Hardships, which I have dedicated years to develop. My long term goal was to always support Heroes & Hardships with various settings, and Tetsubō is a perfect first major release for our system. I am eager for the challenge of making Tetsubo an authentic Sengoku Jidai setting with inspirations from Japanese mythology that will set it apart from any similar roleplaying game on the market today. For those interested in the core rulebook, please check out our Kickstarter page.”
Tetsubo is the Japanese word for Warhammer. The setting was initially penned by Dave Morris after the launch of WFRP, but Games Workshop did not pursue the project. The original Yamato was an island further from the Empire than even Cathay.
Despite the project not going ahead, news of Tetsubo has swirled in the Warhammer community, and the setting has become a legend. Earl of Fife Games will be the first publisher to back the setting.
